Policy & Trust
IBI Trust Principles
Independence: IBI operates independently of governments and vendors
Transparency: What is shown is what was submitted and reviewed for relevance
Minimalism: Only essential data is collected, and only a part of it is published
Non-regulatory: IBI documents effort; it does not police it
Public-first: Only projects serving a public or community purpose are listed
Future-facing: IBI exists to learn, not to promise benefits
Policy & Trust, in Detail:
1. What I Build India (IBI) Is — and Is Not
I Build India (IBI) is an independent, citizen-led civic documentation platform.
It records and showcases instances where individuals, communities, or organisations build small, public-use infrastructure on their own initiative.
IBI is:
- Not a government service or authority,
- Not a statutory or regulatory body,
- Not a funding, grant or subsidy platform
- Not a certification, inspection, or approval body
IBI does not replace or perform the functions of governments, municipalities, or public institutions. Its role is limited to make civic effort visible, traceable, and learnable.
2. No Government Affiliation or Endorsement
I Build India is independent and not affiliated with any government body, department, ministry, or public authority at the Centre, State, or local level.
- No government emblems, seals or symbols are used
- No official endorsement is implied or claimed
- Listing a project on IBI does not indicate/imply government approval or compliance
Any future engagement with policymakers or institutions—if it happens—will be public, transparent, and separate from the operation of this platform.
3. Tax Benefits & Fiscal Incentives — Important Clarification
Projects listed on I Build India do not receive any tax benefit, deduction, credit, or exemption today.
IBI currently:
- Does not provide tax deductions
- Does not issue tax certificates
- Does not interface with tax authorities
- Does not provide financial or fiscal advice
IBI is designed as a proof-of-concept platform. Over time, aggregated data and documented outcomes may be shared to inform public policy discussions. Any tax or fiscal mechanisms—if ever introduced—would apply only after formal government adoption, and only to projects undertaken after such adoption, if such policy allows. No retroactive benefits apply.
4. Project Listing, Review & Responsibility
Projects submitted to IBI are reviewed only for:
- Completeness of information
- Relevance to IBI’s scope
- Evidence of public-use intent
- Acceptance or rejection, at IBI’s discretion
IBI does not:
- Verify technical specifications
- Audit compliance with government laws or standards
- Certify safety, performance or durability
Responsibility for design, execution, safety, legality, operation and maintenance rests solely with the project builder(s) and executing vendors or service providers.
5. Public-Use Requirement
All projects listed on IBI must demonstrably serve a public or community purpose.
Public use may be established through:
- Location context (public roads, parks, institutions, common areas)
- Visual evidence
- GPS/address information
- Description of who can access or benefit from the asset
IBI does not require ownership transfer or government control for a project to qualify as public-use.
6. Vendor & Third-Party Disclaimer
IBI may display details of vendors, technicians, or service providers associated with listed projects, and are informational only.
IBI:
- Does not endorse, recommend or certify vendors
- Does not guarantee quality, pricing, or outcomes
Any engagement with vendors is undertaken at the user’s own discretion and risk. IBI bears no liability for disputes, defects, delays or losses.
7. Data, Privacy & Transparency
IBI collects limited data for documentation purposes, which may include:
- Project descriptions and media
- Approximate costs
- Location information (address and GPS, collected with consent; partial or approximate location may be displayed publicly)
- Vendor or executor details (if shared)
Submitted information may be:
- Displayed publicly in partial or anonymized form, based on contributor consent
- Aggregated for insights or research
- Used to improve platform design
IBI does not sell personal data or use it for targeted advertising, or disclose precise personal location details publicly. Sensitive personal information is neither requested nor required for participation.
Location & Privacy note:
I Build India collects personal identity and full location details (including name, email ID, phone number address and GPS coordinates) solely for verification and internal record-keeping. Names, phone numbers, email ID, exact addresses and precise GPS coordinates are not displayed publicly. Public listings show only a partial or approximate location (such a street, locality, village or administrative area) sufficient to establish public-use credibility while protecting individual privacy.
8. Corrections, Takedowns & Feedback
IBI reserves the right to:
- Edit listings for clarity
- Remove listings that are misleading, incomplete, or inconsistent with platform principles
- Update policies as required
- Request reduction or removal of publicly displayed location details
Users may request corrections or flag concerns through provided feedback channels.
9. Platform Evolution
IBI is an evolving initiative.
Features, policies, and presentation may change over time based on:
- User feedback
- Legal considerations
- Scale and learnings
- Public interest
Major changes will be communicated transparently.
10. In Simple Terms
I Build India exists to document people who choose to build things for the public—quietly, locally, and often without recognition.
It does not promise benefits.
It does not certify work.
It does not replace the State.
It makes civic effort visible — so that better systems may one day follow.
IBI is currently in an early public phase. Some pages and features may be added progressively.
